House where children were left alone caught fire in Iracemápolis Military Police A 9-year-old child was burned on 20% of his body and two 5-year-old twins, brothers of the other child, inhaled smoke during a fire in the house they were in, in Engenheiro Coelho, during the early hours of this Sunday (16). The mother was arrested. Upon noticing the fire, one of the children managed to leave the house and ask for help from neighbors, who called the municipal ambulance. The Military Police (PM) and the Fire Department were called around 3:30 am to fight the flames. The mother returned to the property around 6 am, according to the PM. The three children were treated and taken to a burn reference hospital in Limeira (SP). The one with 20% of her body burned had to undergo surgery, while the twins were hospitalized for observation because they had smoke inhalation. "According to information from neighbors, the person responsible for the three children, aged 5 and 9, had left her children alone to go out and that this situation would be recurring," the PM said in a note. Mother arrested in the act The Civil Police ordered the woman to be arrested in the act for abandonment of an incapacitated person and bodily harm.
