The police reported that they already had characteristics of the suspects and that the approach did not occur randomly. Based on the information received, more than four teams, with around ten police officers, participated in the siege. The operation was mounted at different access points in the region, including the beach, a street close to a fish market and Ponte Nova. Upon noticing the presence of the teams, four suspects jumped into the São João River and tried to escape by swimming. According to the PM, the wind and strong current made it difficult for police officers to act. During their escape, the suspects allegedly threw part of the drugs they were carrying into the river, which prevented the recovery of all the material. Despite this, 26 packets of skank were seized, totaling 75.4 grams; 26 crack rocks, weighing 13 grams; 16 marijuana bushings, totaling 46.4 grams; and a cocaine capsule, weighing 2.2 grams. Two cell phones, two knives, a precision scale and materials used to package narcotics were also seized. During the incident, a police officer fell from a boat but was not injured. According to the police record, the equipment he used and his private cell phone may have been damaged in the accident. The four suspects were taken to the police station, where they were interviewed and released.
