Goeldi Museum Zoobotanical Park celebrates 131 years with free trails in Belém

Goeldi Museum: Pará heritage Created in 1895, the Zoobotanical Park of the Paraense Emílio Goeldi Museum (MPEG) celebrates 131 years this Saturday (15), in Belém. To mark the date, the public will be able to participate in some guided trails. After operating in the Liceu Paraense building and on the premises of the Academia Paraense de Letras, the Goeldi Museum (which turns 160 in October) installed its third headquarters in the area where the Zoobotanical Park is currently located. The park is home to more than 1,700 animals and 3,034 trees. The activities seek to bring visitors closer to the history of space, nature and knowledge linked to the Amazon. ? Those interested should contact the team at the Center for Guided Visits to the Park, right after the ticket office, in front of the historic Rocinha building. Each group will have up to 30 people, on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no age restriction and it is not necessary to register in advance. “The trails are ways of learning about the history of the park, which is also a bit of the history of the Amazon, from different places, along different routes”, says the head of the MPEG Education Service, Mayara Larrys. Sustainability Trail The first departure will be at 9:30 am, with the Sustainability Trail. The route proposes a reflection on the coexistence between human beings and the environment in the Amazon. The rubber tree, samaum tree, paixúba, cocoa and açaí will be among the stopping points. The proposal is to discuss human relationships with the forest based on these species. ?? Historical Trail At 10am, the Historical Trail begins. The tour passes through spaces that hold memories of the Zoobotanical Park and invites the public to look at the past, present and future of the place. The itinerary includes the busts in honor of scientists, the old bird enclosure, the Castelinho, the electricity poles from the end of the 19th century and the buildings of Rocinha and the Jacques Huber Aquarium. ? “Visitão” Trail The “Visitão” Trail leaves at 10:30 am and is considered the widest among the itineraries offered. The activity is aimed at scientific education and observation of Amazonian biodiversity. Along the route, visitors will be able to learn about the physical and behavioral characteristics of the jaguar (Panthera onca), the giant otter (Pteronura brasiliensis), the harpy eagle, spider monkeys (Ateles paniscus) and the alligator (Melanosuchus niger). Rocinha, at the Goeldi Museum Disclosure Karipuna ritual bank In addition to the trails, the commemorative visit includes something new at the Jacques Huber Aquarium. The exhibition “Ahetxiê: a treasure from the Amazon coast” received this week a ritual bench from the Karipuna indigenous people, coming from the Uaçá Indigenous Land, in Amapá. The piece represents the Ahetxiê, known in biology as sawfish and called swordfish by the Karipuna people. Two species of the animal occur on the Amazon coast.
