The body of the fatal victim was found by the Croatian police this Friday (14), in the village of Lokva Rogoznica, where the fire started. Of the 36 people treated by ambulance services in the city of Split, about 25 km to the north, 14 were hospitalized and seven suffered life-threatening injuries, health officials said. Emergency shelters, opened in several cities along the stretch between Omis and Split, accommodated thousands of displaced people, including residents and tourists, overnight. A tourist from Poland said she left some of her things behind in her rush to escape the flames: "We smelled smoke, so we packed up the essentials and got out of there. I left most of my clothes behind."
