The medical team chose to divide the separation into stages, to reduce risks and prepare the structures shared by the girls. The first surgery, on August 23, 2025, completed about 25% of the planned separation. The second, in November, lasted around ten hours. In the third, on February 28 of this year, doctors reported having achieved approximately 75% separation of the brain and shared blood vessels. The fourth stage, on March 21, had another objective. Doctors installed expansion bags to increase the amount of skin available on the two's heads, necessary to close the skulls after definitive separation.
