Citizenship and Democracy Research Group Collection Favoo College expands its initiatives to promote scientific knowledge with the consolidation of two academic research groups: “Citizenship and Democracy” and “DossiêCoop”, both focused on the study of themes that place human development at the center of the debate. The Citizenship and Democracy group is coordinated by professor Dr. Rodrigo Alves Correia and also includes professors Cesar Henrique and Diandra Valêncio and its object of study is to investigate, in an interdisciplinary way, how the concepts of citizenship, democracy and sovereignty relate to the challenges of contemporary society, seeking to understand and propose practices that strengthen citizen participation, democratic management and the guarantee of rights. The DossiêCoop group, coordinated by Master Professor Fabiana Paschoal de Freitas, was born with the mission of developing in-depth research on the most diverse aspects of cooperativism, strengthening the production and dissemination of knowledge in this area. In addition to the studies, the group is structuring a public access repository, which will bring together research, articles, success stories and other relevant materials, allowing researchers, students, cooperatives and interested parties from anywhere in the world to have access to qualified content on the multiple aspects of cooperativism. This repository will integrate an international repository of cooperative business cases centralized at the Canadian publisher Ivey Publishing of the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University, linked to the Canadian Center for the Study of Cooperatives. Meetings take place weekly or fortnightly and have a different dynamic than the traditional classroom. Instead of lectures, the meetings promote academic debates in which teachers and students participate on equal terms, sharing different perspectives and developing research collaboratively. The group is dedicated to studying topics such as citizenship, democracy, human rights, cooperativism, democratic management and the impacts of technologies on society. Participation, encouraged through the offer of scholarships with a discount on the monthly fee, requires commitment to meetings, scientific production and involvement in academic events, while admission occurs through a selection process that considers interest in the lines of research and the diversity of backgrounds among participants. According to professor Dr. Rodrigo Alves Correia, "a research group is much more than a study space. It is an environment where teachers, students and professionals come together to produce knowledge, develop critical thinking and seek solutions to real challenges in society, embracing the logic of cooperativism". For him, the experience provides participants with the development of skills in research, scientific writing, argumentation and collaborative work, in addition to encouraging participation in events, publications and social impact projects. The initiatives strengthen research as part of academic training and create permanent spaces for the production of knowledge, bringing together teachers, students and professionals around themes of relevance to society, reaffirming the institution's commitment to academic training, scientific production, the rapprochement between university and community and the promotion of the search for solutions to the challenges of contemporary society.
