When it comes to electrical energy, it is important to pay extra attention, whether outdoors or indoors. Electric fences, for example, are property protection devices that, when not properly installed and do not follow technical and safety standards, can cause fatal accidents, and can also result in interruptions in the electricity supply, affecting the population. According to the Brazilian Association for Awareness of the Dangers of Electricity (ABRACOPEL), among the risks of accidents with energy inside homes, home maintenance (roof, fences, antenna, etc.) and the lack of maintenance of installations are among the main causes of accidents due to electric shocks. Clandestine electric fence installations do not establish a current limit and have a prolonged discharge Disclosure/Equatorial The Security Executive at Equatorial Maranhão, Gabriel Vieira, warns about taking care with correct installation. "Improvised electrical fences are the cause of many energy accidents. Never try to install wires or other metallic objects connected directly to the electrical network, to serve as an electric fence. Making and installing this type of fence is even a criminal act. It is recommended to always use quality materials, a certified fence electrifier and hire a company specialized in this type of installation, so that all technical and safety standards are followed", said the executive. Always maintaining its commitment to providing information to the population, Equatorial Maranhão has separated some important guidelines about electric fences, the possible risks and drawing attention to the necessary precautions to prevent accidents with electric shocks: ? The main recommendation is to never carry out this type of improvised installation. Look for a specialized company that performs this service, to ensure that everything is done following the essential technical criteria for safe operation, with quality material and necessary certifications; Improvised electric fences are the main causes of accidents involving electricity Disclosure/Equatorial ? Electric fences must be properly marked to prevent accidental touching by unsuspecting people. They must never be installed at a height of less than 2 and a half meters (2.5 m) - In the new legislation, what was established is: "in urban areas, a minimum height must be observed, from the ground, that minimizes the risk of accidental shock to residents and users of public roads"; ? It is a crime to install electrified fences in an irregular manner that puts the lives of people and animals at risk and the owner can be held liable in the event of accidents; ? In cases of a short circuit, do not try to resolve it yourself, as the risk of receiving an electrical shock is very high. The best thing to do is call a specialized company to maintain the electric fence; ? Pay extra attention to children, who often play games with objects that can reach the electric fence. Children are always curious and, as they spend more time at home, they may place metallic objects or objects that conduct electricity in contact with the electric fence; ? If a kite, branch or other object falls on the fence, the recommendation is to turn it off before removing the object; ? Creaks in electric fences indicate a current leak. If this happens, it may be time for maintenance. The Distributor also advises that, if someone is the victim of an energy accident, one should not attempt to touch the person receiving the discharge. The best way to help is to turn off the circuit breaker or main switch and call emergency services at 193 (Fire Department) or 192 (Samu). If the accident is on a public road, in addition to the guidelines already mentioned, it is necessary to contact the Distributor by calling 116, so that the power can be turned off. VC+ Seguro Movement Equatorial Maranhão reinforces that these guidelines are part of the “Vc+ Seguro” Movement, an initiative that acts preventively, guiding its customers and reinforcing the importance of safety with electrical energy to avoid accidents. The campaign aims to expand access to information and raise awareness among the population about the risks and dangers related to the use of electrical energy, reaffirming the Distributor's commitment to safety, accident prevention and the well-being of the community. Red August During the month of August, the movement's actions are reinforced with the Red August campaign, an initiative promoted by the Brazilian Association of Electricity Distributors (Abradee), aimed at raising awareness among the population about the risks of accidents involving the electrical grid.
