Elections 2026: electoral campaign begins on Sunday with acts by presidential candidates

The best-positioned presidential candidates in voting intention polls hold campaign inaugurations in their electoral cradles: Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in São Bernardo do Campo (SP), Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Ronaldo Caiado (PSD) in Goiás and Romeu Zema (Novo) in Minas Gerais.

The deadline to register tickets at the Electoral Court is Saturday, at 7 pm. The candidates who will contest the election were defined in conventions held between July 20th and August 5th.

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT)

The President of the Republic launches his campaign in São Bernardo do Campo (SP), at the 1º de Maio Stadium, also known as the Vila Euclides Stadium. The location was chosen because it was the PT member's political birthplace. In the 1970s and 1980s, the stadium was the stage for assemblies during the historic strikes of metalworkers in ABC Paulista.

The event will start at 10am, but the gathering at the site will take place from 9am. Lula's campaign has adopted the phrase \"Where it all began\" as its slogan for the launch of the campaign this Sunday. Allies from across the president's career should participate in the event.

Flávio Bolsonaro (PL)

The senator will launch his campaign with a rally on Copacabana Beach, in Rio de Janeiro - the same place where acts of support for his father, former President of the Republic Jair Bolsonaro (PL), have already been held.

The event in Copacabana is scheduled to start at 11 am.

Flávio is from Resende, in the interior of the state, and his first political position was as state deputy for Rio in 2002.

Ronaldo Caiado (PSD)

The candidate chose to launch his campaign in Goiás, the state he governed for two terms until March this year. Motorcades will be held in six cities in Goiás around Brasília: Águas Lindas de Goiás, Santo Antônio do Descoberto, Novo Gama, Valparaíso, Cidade Oeste and Luziânia.

The first act is scheduled for 8am, and each one will last around two hours.

Romeu Zema (New)

The campaign launch will be in Minas Gerais, where Zema began his political career and was governor for two terms. The event will be held at the Municipal Market of Montes Claros, the main city in the north of the state, at 8:30 am, and should not be attended by senator Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE), candidate for vice on the ticket.

Renan Santos (Mission)

The campaign of Mission's presidential candidate, Renan Santos, will begin with an event at Largo São Francisco, in São Paulo, on Sunday, 16th, at 1pm. The place houses the Faculty of Law of the University of São Paulo (USP), where the activist began his political career, still in the student movement.

In addition to Renan, speeches are planned from the campaign coordinator, São Paulo councilor Amanda Vettorazzo (União), federal deputy and economic coordinator Kim Kataguiri (Missão-SP), and the candidate for vice-president, lieutenant colonel Aroldo Medina.

The choice of Largo São Francisco as the venue for the inauguration of Renan's campaign generated a reaction from law students, who raised an "anti-fascist" flag there and held a protest against Renan's act on Thursday, the 13th.
