According to information found at the scene, José Manoel was trying to unclog a septic tank using calcium carbide when there was a strong explosion. With the impact, he was thrown to the roof of the residence. The septic tank explosion also caused damage to the structure of the property. The wall of the neighboring house was destroyed and part of the laundry room in the residence where the elderly man lived was compromised. Teams from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) and the Fire Department were called. With the help of neighbors, the elderly man was removed from the roof, received first aid while still at the scene and was then taken to the Trauma Hospital. According to Samu, José Manoel had 27% of his body burned. In a medical bulletin released after the treatment, the hospital reported that he remained hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), receiving intensive care, with a health condition considered serious.
