According to delegate Wanderléia Gadelha, responsible for the investigation, the truck in front was towing another, in reverse, which had presented mechanical problems. "The truck in front was going backwards, towing the truck in the middle. The third truck, loaded with a load of sweet potatoes, was most likely surprised by the presence of this vehicle being towed, colliding with the truck", explained the delegate. Also according to the investigation, the defective trailer was heading to Vitória de Santo Antão, in Pernambuco. The trailer that carried out the towing was destined for Fortaleza, in Ceará. The two belong to the same company, headquartered in Santa Catarina. Janielson was traveling alone. Due to the impact of the crash, he died at the scene. The Fire Department was called to remove the body from the scene. The case is still under investigation by the Civil Police.
