Depressed mother killed three children. On social media, there is another theory

The woman is suspected of the death, in 2023, of her three children and of attempting to commit suicide afterwards. Lindsay survived, having suffered life-long consequences, and now faces justice.

The woman's defense does not deny the acts committed, but tries to mitigate her sentence, using the fact that it was known that she was dealing with several mental health problems, including postpartum depression.

However, there are theories circulating that point to several inconsistencies in the timeline of the events that happened that day and that could call Lindsay's husband and father of the children into question. Let's get to the story.

The triple homicide

In January 2023, after a brief absence to go shopping, Patrick Clancy arrived home and found his wife lying in the garden. The man alerted the authorities and it was confirmed that the woman threw herself from the 2nd floor of the house in an attempt to take her own life. But that wasn't all.

Inside the house, authorities found the bodies of the couple's three children, aged five and three, and eight months old, in the basement. They all died from suffocation with elastic gymnastic bands.

Lindsay pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Her lawyer, Kevin Reddington, argued that she suffered from severe postpartum mental illness at the time of the homicides.

Three years later, Lindsay, who became a paraplegic and now uses a wheelchair, begins to stand trial. The trial, however, is not limited to the courtroom in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Detectives on social media

A quick browse through social media reveals a series of occasional detectives who meticulously analyze testimonies, psychiatric evidence and details of the case, evaluating contradictory interpretations and developing their own theories, according to Marie Claire magazine.

On social media, a completely different theory has now emerged about what happened that day. It is worth noting, however, that Lindsay herself confessed to the crimes. In this new version, the main suspect becomes her husband.

What do online detectives say and what evidence do they present?

The theories are based on the man's testimony and the evidence collected, which, according to many internet users, present inconsistencies and discrepancies. There are also images from security cameras, and that's what we'll start with.

When he left the house, for a total period of approximately 45 minutes, Patrick would have gone to a pharmacy and a restaurant to get dinner. Images from security cameras at both establishments confirm the man's presence, but some details are drawing attention. It's just that Patrick seems to have changed clothes between one store and another. The reason is something that Internet users try to discover.

Another point that has raised doubts is related to the woman's body temperature when she was found. Health professionals and others highlight that the temperature would have dropped too quickly, raising questions about the period in which the man was away from home and the moment in which she was found.

There is also information about the medication Lindsay took before jumping from the second floor of the house. According to reports, the woman had taken several tranquilizers and crushed the pills.

As Lindsay is a nurse by profession, many question why she would have crushed the medications. "Nurses only crush pills for someone who may have a feeding tube or for anyone who is trying to administer medication without the person's knowledge," one user wrote. Another person said: "Nurses don't crush pills, husbands looking for a new life do."

It was also noted in court that investigators did not find Lindsay's fingerprints on the bandages or on the knife found in her room, which was allegedly used to kill her children. The detail confused many people on social media, with several users suggesting it indicated that "someone was wearing gloves."

There is also another issue related to a smartwatch that the woman wore constantly and which, according to reports, had been removed before she jumped out of the window. “Who, after killing their own children, would worry about taking off a watch?” asked one internet user.

Lindsay confessed and admits to mental health problems. Despite all these speculations, it is unlikely that they will be used in court, especially because, as previously mentioned, Lindsay's defense acknowledged the authorship of the crimes.

The expectation, however, is that the state of his mental health will help reduce the sentence he could receive.

The defense claims that she was under the influence of bipolar disorder and postpartum psychosis, a rare condition that can alter a woman's perception of reality after giving birth. Therefore, lawyers argue that she should not be considered criminally responsible for the acts.

Prosecutors, on the other hand, argue that there was intent in the crimes. One of the pieces of evidence cited would be the fact that Lindsay had planned to take her husband away from home, asking him to get food and stop by the pharmacy, so that he could commit the murders.

If convicted of the murders, Clancy could receive life in prison without parole. If she is found not guilty due to lack of criminal responsibility, she will be committed to a state mental health institution, according to ABC News.
