The Civil Police began investigating the case and, after accessing the card statement, obtained images from security cameras at stores where it was used, showing the suspect making payments. The nuns confirmed that the pest control professional was the only "external" person to enter the convent during the period, and the police discovered that he took advantage of the fact that the nuns had to leave the property due to the application of the poison to search the environment. The intention, says the delegate, was to steal valuables, but the man ended up finding the bank card and also a piece of paper with the password written down.
