City Farm FAG reaches its 6th edition between the 26th and 29th of November, on the campus of Centro Universitário FAG, in Cascavel (PR). Over four days, the event will bring together universities, agribusiness, science, technology, innovation and community in programming aimed at different audiences. Created from the tradition of the Agronomy course, City Farm FAG has expanded its proposal over the years and has established itself as a space for integration between students, researchers, companies, producers and the community. The initiative seeks to bring the knowledge produced at the university closer to the transformations and demands of the productive sector. "The City Farm initiative was born within the Agronomy course, from a tradition of more than 30 Field Days held over the years. In 2019, when the course completed 15 years, we thought about expanding this experience and creating an event that would bring companies even closer to the university", explains the Agronomy coordinator at the FAG Center, Ana Paula Morais Mourão Simonetti. According to her, the proposal also came about with the aim of providing academics with contact with technologies, professionals and market opportunities, in addition to allowing them to present their talents and knowledge. In 2024, City Farm FAG officially became part of the Cascavel Events Calendar, through Municipal Law No. 7,704/2024, which recognizes the initiative as a scientific and technological fair held annually in November. One of the main objectives of City Farm FAG is to bring academic training closer to the needs of agribusiness. During the event, students and professors have contact with professionals and companies, while the external public can learn about projects, research, technologies and practices developed in the university environment. For Jaqueline Gurgacz Ferreira, administrative dean of Centro FAG, this connection strengthens both the training of students and the university's relationship with society. "City Farm very clearly represents the university's ability to connect with the productive sector and with the transformations taking place in agribusiness. The university brings knowledge and training, but also learns from the demands and experiences of the sector", he highlights. Scientific research also occupies space in the program. Among the initiatives linked to City Farm is the Saber Award, which recognizes scientific research and innovative projects related to agricultural sciences and agribusiness. The proposal is to value the knowledge produced by researchers and academics and expand the dialogue between science, market and society. Technology and innovation in the field Technological transformations are part of the reality of agribusiness and are also present in the City Farm FAG proposal. The event creates opportunities to learn about new solutions, share experiences and discuss paths for the sector’s development. For Mark Reginatto, director of innovation at the FAG Center, the initiative helps to bring innovation closer to the reality in the field. "Agribusiness is going through a very rapid transformation, full of new technologies, shaped by research and the need to make processes increasingly efficient and sustainable. City Farm creates precisely this favorable environment to exchange experiences and think together about the sector's next steps", he reinforces. Connection with regional agribusiness Despite having its roots in Agronomy, City Farm FAG also seeks to bring together audiences who do not have daily contact with the rural environment. The proposal is to present agribusiness in an accessible way, showing the different stages of food production and the presence of science, technology and innovation in the field. In recent editions, the event has increasingly incorporated activities aimed at the general public, transforming the campus into a space for coexistence and learning during the programming days. Academics from courses related to agribusiness participate in the organization and activities, putting into practice knowledge developed during graduation.
