Actor arrested on suspicion of rape says he mistook child for girlfriend

The new version was released after the case gained repercussion. Initially, Furlan reportedly told military police officers that he felt ill during the birthday party and entered the room by mistake. At the police station, he declared that he had consumed alcohol and did not remember what happened, only remembering the moment he was placed in the police car.

The arrest took place during a celebration held in Pindamonhangaba, in the interior of São Paulo. According to police records, family members and guests were alerted by the child's crying. The victim's mother and other people went to the room and found the actor next to the girl.

The Military Police were called and arrested Furlan red-handed. Witnesses reported that he had altered behavior and cried during the approach. After being taken to the Pindamonhangaba Police Station, the actor was charged with rape of a vulnerable person.

After the custody hearing, the arrest was converted into preventative arrest. The actor remains at the disposal of Justice.

In a statement, the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat informed that other details will not be disclosed due to the nature of the incident and because it involves a child.

"A 48-year-old man was arrested in the act and remains at the disposal of the Court. Other details will be preserved due to the nature of the incident and because it involved a minor", declared the ministry.

The investigation is being carried out under secrecy. Until the new information was released, Marco Furlan's defense had not publicly commented on the accusations.
