A man died during a cosmetic procedure at a clinic in Fortaleza, in the Brazilian state of Ceará, on Tuesday, August 18. The cause of death is still being investigated.

The victim, identified as João Victor Batista Pinheiro, was 45 years old and was born in Fortaleza. According to G1, he had two children and owned the company Casa de Fogos São João, which sells products and creates pyrotechnic effects at events.

The businessman died inside the clinic where he underwent a facelift, an aesthetic plastic surgery procedure designed to combat the visible signs of aging.

According to a report from Ceará Forensic Expertise (Pefoce), to which G1 had access, a doctor reported that the businessman had a history of hypertension and was anesthetized to carry out the aesthetic procedure.

It was at that moment that the man allegedly began to foam at the mouth. Despite seven rounds of resuscitation maneuvers being carried out, he ended up dying.

João Victor Batista would have a facelift on his temples. It is not yet known whether he suffered an adverse reaction to the procedure or anesthesia, or whether his death occurred due to other factors.

In a statement, the defense of Espaço Michele França, where the incident occurred, said it is following the investigations and collaborating with the authorities.

"Some information released so far does not correspond to what is known by the defense. Therefore, we understand that any conclusion at this time is hasty", says the note. "Out of respect for the family and the work of the authorities, we will await the progress of the investigations, confident that everything will be duly clarified."

Lawyer Alysson Castro, who represents João Victor Batista's family, stated that the man had been a client of the clinic for two years and had already performed other aesthetic procedures there. The family also reported that he was healthy and exercised.

The lawyer added that the family will follow the police investigation to verify whether there was "any omission or negligence" on the part of the clinic. If this is confirmed, do not rule out the possibility of taking legal action.
