Be aware of the risks of leaving your cell phone charger plugged into the socket

Leaving the cell phone charger plugged in, even when not in use, is a common habit in many homes. However, in addition to representing unnecessary energy consumption, this practice can also pose safety risks, especially in environments with children and pets. In this context, Equatorial Maranhão warns that, even without the cell phone connected, the charger in the socket continues to consume energy. Although consumption is low throughout the month, it can contribute to an increase in the electricity bill. Therefore, the recommendation is simple: remove the charger from the socket when it is not in use. Another point of attention is the quality of the chargers used. Counterfeit or uncertified products can overheat, increasing the risk of short circuits and even fires. According to the Safety Executive at Equatorial Maranhão, Gabriel Vieira, simple everyday attitudes help prevent domestic accidents related to electricity. "Another important guideline is not to use your cell phone while it is charging. If you need to answer a call, disconnect the device from the charger. Furthermore, damaged cables, chargers or uncertified products significantly increase the chances of electrical accidents", warned the Executive. In homes with children or pets, extra attention must be paid. Loose cables or chargers plugged into the socket can be pulled or chewed, which can cause electric shocks and accidents. To avoid situations like these, the Distributor reinforces some safety guidelines: • Remove the charger from the socket when not in use, as, even in stand-by, it continues to consume energy; • Use chargers certified and approved by ANATEL; • Do not use your cell phone while it is charging; • Do not use damaged cables or adapters; • Keep chargers and cables out of the reach of children and animals. VC+ Seguro Movement Equatorial Maranhão reinforces that these guidelines are part of the “Vc+ Seguro” Movement, an initiative that acts preventively, guiding its customers and reinforcing the importance of safety with electrical energy to avoid accidents. The campaign aims to expand access to information and raise awareness among the population about the risks and dangers related to the use of electrical energy, reaffirming the Distributor's commitment to safety, accident prevention and the well-being of the community. Red August During the month of August, the movement's actions are reinforced with the Red August campaign, an initiative promoted by the Brazilian Association of Electricity Distributors (Abradee), aimed at raising awareness among the population about the risks of accidents involving the electrical grid.
