Award-winning chef returns to restaurant after allegations of aggression and humiliation

Noma/ Disclosure Less than five months after announcing his departure from Noma, one of the best-rated restaurants in the world, chef René Redzepi is back at the establishment he helped found in Copenhagen, Denmark. The return comes after its leadership was the target of allegations of aggression, humiliation and abuse in the workplace made by former employees in March, in a report by the North American newspaper New York Times. Redzepi, 48 years old, returns, however, in a different role. After more than two decades at the helm of the restaurant, he leaves command of the kitchen and takes on the role of creative director, according to The Wall Street Journal. The New York Times report showed that dozens of former employees accused Redzepi of creating an abusive culture and a toxic environment. There were reports of verbal threats and physical abuse against workers. “He hit, poked and pushed employees for minor mistakes and sometimes even punched someone when he lost his temper,” a former worker told The New York Times.
