Attacks carried out by Russia and Ukraine have left at least four dead in the last few hours, including an 8-year-old child. The offensives reached different regions of both countries and involved hundreds of drones, according to information released by authorities this Wednesday.

In Russia, two people died in the Krasnodar region. One of the victims was an 8-year-old child, hit during a Ukrainian drone attack on Novorossiysk, a port city on the shores of the Black Sea, according to the regional governor, Veniamin Kondratyev.

Eight other people were injured in Novorossiysk, including a minor. Kondratyev said drone debris hit residential and commercial buildings. Around 90 residents needed to be sent to temporary reception centers.

Images released by the Russian press show damage to the facade of a residential building, partially damaged by the impact. The authenticity of the material has not been independently verified by France-Presse.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed an attack on the Novorossiysk naval base, located more than 300 kilometers from the front line. He called it the "last great bastion of the Russian fleet in the Black Sea."

According to Zelensky, air defense positions and port structures were hit by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Another drone attack left one person dead in the village of Volna, also in the Krasnodar region and close to the Crimean peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014. Four people were injured in other offensives recorded in the cities of Anapa and Gelendzhik.

The Russian Defense Ministry said it shot down 502 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory and the Black Sea overnight.

Russian attacks leave people dead in Ukraine

In Ukraine, two people died in Russian drone strikes against Kherson, an important city in the south of the country located close to the front line. Other people were injured, according to local authorities.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, a drone hit a bus and injured one person, Governor Ivan Fedorov said.

Ukraine's Air Force said Russia launched missiles and 138 drones overnight. According to the Ukrainian military, 112 of these drones were shot down or intercepted. The statement did not report the interception of missiles.

Attacks by both sides have intensified after more than four years of war. The large-scale Russian invasion began in February 2022 and caused thousands of deaths, in addition to the destruction of infrastructure and the displacement of millions of people.

Ukraine has received financial and military support from Western countries since the beginning of the conflict.

Russian President Vladimir Putin demands recognition of Moscow's control over Ukrainian territories and guarantees that Ukraine will not join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Zelensky rejects these conditions and demands the withdrawal of Russian troops and the reestablishment of the internationally recognized borders of 1991, which includes the Crimean peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014.
