The arrest of businessman Ivo Vel Kos, 48, following a complaint of domestic violence brought to light another investigation involving his name. Businessman reportedly returned to the scene with a hammer

The report recorded by the police indicates that Kos was removed from the main area of the synagogue after the first disturbance. Shortly afterwards, however, he returned carrying a hammer.

The victim stated that she was kicked in the stomach and that the businessman tried to hit her in the face with the tool. Ceremony attendees would have managed to intervene and restrain him. Kos left the synagogue before the arrival of the Military Police, according to information gathered in the investigation.

The Civil Police investigate possible crimes of bodily harm, threats and stalking. People who were at the scene also testified and confirmed having witnessed parts of the confusion.

A witness claimed to have seen the businessman pull the man's hair, try to headbutt him and make threats. Another regular told the police that he had watched the moment when Kos appeared with the hammer.

Investigators are also investigating the suspicion that an audio containing threats was later sent to the victim's father.

Court imposed restrictions after synagogue episode

In June, the Court rejected a request for preventive detention related to this investigation, but established precautionary measures to protect the victim and her family.

The decision determined that Kos and his partner did not frequent the same places as the victim and her relatives. A minimum distance of 500 meters was also established, in addition to the prohibition of any contact, including through social networks, third parties or other means of communication.

According to the decision cited by the press, there was evidence related to the crimes of threat and persecution that justified the adoption of restrictions while the case remained under investigation.

Arrest occurred after report of domestic violence

Kos returned to the center of a police investigation in the early hours of Saturday (15), when he was arrested in the act after his wife, dentist Giulia Melo Falcão Vel Kos, aged 27, accused him of attacks and threats in Pinheiros, also in the West Zone of São Paulo. The court later converted the arrest into preventive detention.

According to the dentist's report to the police, the couple was returning from dinner when an argument began in the car. Giulia stated that she was punched in the face and body and, after leaving the vehicle, she was chased by her husband. She also reported being hit in the hand with a baseball bat and threatened with a stun gun.

Images from a security camera shown by TV Globo's Fantástico program show a man believed to be Kos getting out of a car and hitting Giulia with a punch. She falls after the blow.

The businessman denies the accusations and presented another version to the police. According to her testimony, Giulia had started the attacks during the argument. The police found apparent injuries on the two, who were taken to the Legal Medical Institute for examinations.

The case involving the dentist was registered by the Public Security Secretariat as bodily injury, domestic violence and threat, with application of the Maria da Penha Law. Kos' defense filed a request for habeas corpus to try to reverse the preventive detention.

Lawyer Davi Gebara, who represents the businessman, told the press that he would not comment on the accusation of domestic violence at that time, "out of respect for both families". Kos also denies the accusations made by his wife.
