RAQUEL LOPESBRASÍLIA, DF (FOLHAPRESS) - The ANPD (National Data Protection Agency) determined this Wednesday (12) that Discord suspend live broadcasts on its platform. The company will have three working days to comply with the decision.

The agency opened an inspection process last Friday (7) to investigate possible failures of the application in preventing and combating content related to self-mutilation and suicide.

The information was initially published by Metrópoles and confirmed by Folha.

Last week, the First Lady of the Republic, Janja Lula da Silva, had asked Minister Wellington Lima e Silva (Justice) and the Attorney General of the Union, Jorge Messias, for the immediate takedown of Discord, during the sanctioning of a law to protect children and adolescents on the internet.

The request from President Lula's (PT) wife was made due to the case in which a 13-year-old girl was allegedly induced by other teenagers to self-mutilate and commit suicide, scenes broadcast on the platform.

The case occurred in Mato Grosso do Sul. On Tuesday (4), the police carried out an operation against the group of young people suspected of having participated in grooming the teenager.

The ANPD inspection takes place while the federal government demands explanations from the platform about the case. The AGU (Attorney General's Office) also asked Discord for clarification about its actions before and after the teenager's death.

The ANPD investigation is based on the obligations established by ECA Digital. The legislation expanded the duties of platforms in protecting children and adolescents in the digital environment.

The agency specifically cited provisions related to the prevention and mitigation of risks involving self-harm and suicide content, measuring the age of users, removing violating content and reporting to the competent authorities.
