Gale of 100 km/h should hit areas of 5 states, warns Inmet

An orange danger alert was issued by the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) for the risk of gales with intensities expected to vary from 60 km/h to 100 km.

The warning is valid from this Friday (17th) and should initially affect the entire Rio Grande do Sul, a state that is expected to suffer from heavy rain over the next few days, especially the north of Rio Grande do Sul, where rainfall tends to exceed 300 mm.

From Saturday (20), winds accompanied by storms should begin to hit the following areas:

- West, south and mountainous region of Santa Catarina

- Northwest, southwest, west and central-south of Paraná

On Sunday (19), the phenomenon advances even further and, also followed by heavy rain, should affect:

- Mato Grosso do Sul: southwest, Pantanal, central north and east

- Mato Grosso: southwest, central-south and north

According to Canal Rural meteorologist Arthur Müller, storms can be accompanied by gales, including phenomena known as microexplosions and tornadoes. As a result, there is a risk of falling trees, roofing of houses and general damage to buildings and plantations in the affected areas.

Inmet estimates that the impacts of the storm could reach more than 820 municipalities (see the full list here).
