THERE IS A Solution: Reforestation actions make a difference in the Bauru region In Marília, in the center-west of São Paulo, the Munay Agroecological Site has been developing agroecology and sustainable planning practices for more than four years. In an area of ??just two hectares, more than 80 plant species coexist in an agroforestry system designed to recover the soil and increase biodiversity. The proposal is to show that it is possible to use nature's resources consciously, reconciling food production with environmental preservation. ? At the same time that we are producing food, we are taking care of the soil, planting native trees, bringing biodiversity and helping the fauna", explains Alessandra de Moraes, creator of the project. Agroecological site develops sustainable practices in Marília TV TEM/ Reproduction Among the initiatives developed at the site are composting and the reuse of organic waste. For agroecologist Lucas Lambertini Bossay, systems like this show that production and environmental conservation can go hand in hand. THERE'S A SOLUTION Recycling construction waste and environmental certifications show paths to more sustainable cities Students create recyclable dresses and thrift stores encourage sustainable fashion From recycled cooking oil to community gardens, projects in the interior of SP combine sustainability and solidarity How the 'garbage' that leaves your home can generate income and transform communities in the interior of SP Initiatives in the interior of SP restore rivers and dispose of tons of electronic waste correctly “The development of systems that align productivity with environmental conservation proves that it is possible to produce and, at the same time, conserve nature. Climate change is here and we need to adapt." The space also welcomes groups of students and visitors from various cities in the region, interested in learning about sustainable practices. Food engineer Isabel Brito visited the place and says that the experience was also a way of transmitting knowledge to new generations. "I came with my mother, my daughter and my nephews. I think it's important to pass on this knowledge to them. Understand that we have to do our part", he says. Stingless bees Another highlight of the property is the preservation of stingless bees, which are part of the agroforestry system and contribute to the pollination of different plant species. In addition to promoting production and biodiversity, the initiative helps to conserve these insects, which are important for the balance of ecosystems. Reforestation on the banks of the Paraná River Reforestation project is carried out in Presidente Epitácio TV TEM/ Reproduction In the west of São Paulo, in Presidente Epitácio (SP), the challenge is to recover and protect areas on the banks of the Paraná River, one of the main rivers in South America, approximately 4,900 kilometers long. In the region, reforestation projects seek to recover degraded areas, protect the soil and contribute to the preservation of the river. In the nursery of the Association in Defense of the Paraná River, Tributaries and Riparian Forest (Apoena), almost 65 species of native trees are cultivated. Around 200 thousand seedlings are in production. According to environmentalist Djalma Welffort, environmental recovery has already transformed areas that were previously occupied by degraded pastures. "Here, in the past, were degraded pastures and today we already have a forest, with more than 1.5 million seedlings planted. With this, we are attracting other environmental benefits, such as fauna, flora, climate improvement and even the emergence of a spring." Buriti helps to recover degraded areas One of the species that gained prominence in the restoration process is the buriti. After almost disappearing from some areas of the region, the palm tree returned to occupy spaces close to rivers. According to biologist William Takata, the species plays an important role in environmental balance. "The buriti tree works as a source of food. It produces fruit for birds, food for small rodents and serves as shelter. When palm trees die, they can also serve as nests for birds", he explains. The recovery of vegetation also creates conditions for the return of wild animals, including species that occupy different positions in the food chain, such as pumas, giant anteaters and agoutis. "We prove that restoration produces results for the environment. It is a model that we will replicate in other areas and for the next generations", says Djalma.
