Suspect of stealing a student's cell phone in RJ turns himself in and confesses to the crime, police say

It was the father of Alison da Cruz Santana Aleixo, 24, who went to the police station on Monday night (10) and said he recognized his son in the images. He also stated, according to the police, that he tried to convince the suspect to surrender, but he fled through the window of the house.

Alison reported herself to the 59th Police Station (Duque de Caxias) and confessed to the robbery, according to the police. He was accompanied by family members and wore an electronic ankle bracelet, as he was serving a prison sentence for another robbery. As of publication, there is no lawyer representing him.

The images, recorded on Monday morning, show the student walking to school, with her backpack on her back and her cell phone in her hands, when a man dressed in black parks a white car, gets out of the vehicle, holds the young girl's neck and snatches the device from her hands before fleeing.

In the videos, the student cries and repeatedly begs not to lose her phone: "Please, boy, please, please, for the love of God, I only have this phone. Boy, please."

Civil police officers went to Alison's family's address on Tuesday, in São João de Meriti, where the car used in the crime was stored. At the scene, an aunt welcomed them, said she had already seen the videos of the case and confirmed that the father had bought the vehicle so that his son could work as an app driver. According to her, the father of the person being investigated had felt ill when he found out that the car was being used to commit crimes. He was treated at a nearby UPA (Emergency Care Unit).

At night, the father accompanied the young man to the police station. In testimony, according to the police, Alison said she approached the victim carrying a simulated firearm borrowed from an acquaintance. He confirmed that he had used violence to obtain the device.

The suspect told the police that he tried to sell the device at the Pavuna Fair, but was unable to do so. Given the repercussions of the case, he broke the device, threw it into the street and got rid of the simulacrum weapon.

Alison also stated that she had served two years and two months in prison for robbery. He also said he feared being killed in jail by members of a criminal gang, for robbing a victim on the way to school. The victim participated in photographic reconnaissance conducted by the Civil Police.

Data from the Public Security Institute (ISP) show a drop in street robberies in Duque de Caxias in June, compared to the same month in 2025: there were 112 cases, compared to 235 - a decrease of 52.3%.

Despite this, the municipality appears in second place in the state's violent fatality rate, behind only the capital. The indicator adds cases of intentional homicide, robbery (robbery leading to death), bodily injury followed by death and death due to the intervention of a State agent.

The 13 municipalities of Baixada Fluminense had 434 victims of violent deaths in the first half of the year, a quarter of the total recorded in the state. Duque de Caxias accounted for 24.4% of cases.
