Cláudio Rafael Landeiro Moreira, 37 years old, left his home in Botafogo at 10:30 pm on the 11th, for a bike ride, as he usually did, according to his family. A
He stopped at Rua Barata Ribeiro and was approached by the street security guard, Davi Santos Machado, who suspected that Cláudio Rafael had stolen the bicycle.
He began to be interrogated by security and app delivery people who were on bicycles.
Because he suffered from psychological disorders, Cláudio Rafael was unable to answer that the bicycle belonged to his sister.
Davi Machado attacked the victim with the first blow. The other security guard, Jorge Luiz, pulled Cláudio Rafael's bicycle. The victim continued to be attacked with sticks and kicks by the group.
The cyclist walked away and sat down in the lobby of a building, but continued to be beaten.
According to the police, images from security cameras show that Cláudio Rafael received 57 blows from Davi with a club, most of them to the head, as well as kicks and being stamped on the head and other parts of the body.
After the beating, the attackers left and the victim remained lying on the floor. Firefighters arrived about 30 minutes later. Cláudio Rafael Moreira was taken to Miguel Couto Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries and died in the early hours of the 12th.
