The Lutadoras Program, developed by Cuiabá City Hall, through the Municipal Women's Secretariat, continues to expand services to women in the capital. Kits were delivered to project participants during an action held at the Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) Doutor Fábio, this Monday (17).

The initiative aims to use sports and martial arts as tools to promote health, body awareness, self-esteem and strengthening women, in addition to bringing them closer to the services offered by Cuiabá City Hall and the Municipal Women's Secretariat.

During the delivery of the kits, the municipal secretary for Women, Lieutenant Colonel Hadassah Suzannah, highlighted that the project goes beyond sports and works as an extension of the City Hall in the neighborhoods.

"It's a way for us to bring an extension of City Hall to these women. We came to deliver the kits. Many were without t-shirts and it's a way of encouraging, showing them that this whole project is simple, but with great care and affection", he stated.

According to the secretary, the Fighters Program currently has 32 classes in operation, distributed across different regions of Cuiabá. The proposal is to ensure that women who live in areas further away from the center also have access to activities and the public service network.

"Our objective is to ensure that women who are sometimes further away, who are unable to come to the center, find a complete project close to their home. It is not just physical activity and body awareness, but also emotional well-being and strengthening the protection network", explained Hadassah.

Physical and nutritional assessment

In addition to sporting activities, the program also includes monitoring aimed at the physical and nutritional health of participants. The director of Public Policies and project coordinator, Eduarda Butaca, is carrying out evaluations in the 32 classes.

Nutrition student, Eduarda develops an extension project focused on the physical and nutritional assessment of Lutadoras students. The work includes guidance on nutrition, hydration and other habits that can contribute to performance during training.

“I will be visiting all centers, all 32 classes, to assess the physical and nutritional health of these students and also provide guidance to them afterwards about nutrition, water intake and how this can impact their training performance”, he explained.

Project increases number of vacancies

The coordinator of the Lutadoras Program, Poliana Souza de Araújo, also highlighted the expansion of the initiative. According to her, the project began in 2025 and underwent expansion, reaching more than a thousand vacancies. In addition to her role as coordinator and teacher, Poliana also works as an athlete. A black belt in jiu-jitsu, she continues to compete in national and international tournaments, representing Mato Grosso.

“I'm an athlete too, still a competitor, I have a black belt in jiu-jitsu and I'm competing in international and national competitions, representing Mato Grosso,” she said.

The experience as an athlete also contributes to the work developed with the participants, reinforcing sport as an instrument of transformation, discipline and personal strengthening.

With activities distributed across different regions of the capital, the Lutadoras Program seeks to expand women's access to sport and, at the same time, strengthen the connection with municipal public policies, creating spaces for coexistence, guidance and promotion of quality of life.
