Amazon Challenges Program has an open public call that will allocate R$ 107.1 million to finance projects Disclosure The Amazon Challenges Program has an open public call that will allocate R$ 107.1 million to finance research, development and innovation projects aimed at the Amazon socio-bioeconomy. The initiative is a partnership between the Amazon Fund and the National Council of State Research Support Foundations (Confap) and is part of a program that foresees a total investment of R$150 million to strengthen research and innovation in the region. The expectation is to select between nine and 12 projects, with a maximum duration of 36 months. Each proposal may receive between R$6 million and R$8 million from the Amazon Fund and, with counterparts from the State Research Support Foundations (FAPs), the investment may reach R$10 million per project. Proposals must present solutions to one of the five challenges defined by the notice: sustainable expansion of the native açaí chain; valorization of Amazon nuts and other non-timber forest products; strengthening the cocoa chain combined with the conservation and restoration of ecosystems; strengthening babassu and other socio-biodiversity chains in the Amazon-Cerrado transition zone; or development of the water economy through sustainable management of fishing resources.
