Sérgio Fermino found small notes written by his daughter that were hidden inside a hairbrush she used as a child. The discovery happened one day after he visited his daughter's grave at the Parque das Flores Cemetery, in Hortolândia. Isabela died at the age of 7 after a tree fell in Lagoa do Taquaral, in Campinas. Three years and six months after the tragedy, the unexpectedly found messages moved the father. "I cried a lot there on Sunday. I went to have a specific time of meditation about the longing I feel, to ask God to heal and treat me. On Monday, when I went to comb my hair, this brush fell out of my hand and opened. There were some rolled up pieces of paper inside," he reported. When reading the messages, Sérgio said he felt a comfort that was difficult to explain. "One of the pieces of paper said: 'Dad, this is Isabela'. On another it was written: 'Ti amo'. One day after I died of tears of longing, a gift like this comes. For me it is inexplicable if it is not an act of God's kindness", he stated. And it was a lot of work, it required a lot of cream, you know? My hair is also curly, so it works for me. So, we shared the same brush", he recalls. Upon coming across the notes, Sérgio identified that they must have been written during the pandemic period, when he actively participated in his daughter's literacy training. "I identified that it was actually the time when she was learning to put the letters together. I invested time with her at home to teach her how to read. Not writing, but then she tried to put the letters together on her own, right?", he says.
