Max's allies assess that the break with the Mendes and Pivetta group involves risk, but could also expand Podemos's political space in an eventual Wellington victory.
"Everyone knows that if Podemos goes with Pivetta, and he is re-elected, the party will have to play a supporting role. Now, if it goes with Wellington and wins, Max and the party will have a different stature and prospects", said a party source.
The same source said that the decision involves an assessment of the party's future political space within the groups in dispute.
"Is it risky to break up? Of course. But will we spend our whole lives being supporting actors? We know that there is no space in Mendes' group. If Pivetta wins, in 2030 they will want to launch Fábio Garcia into the Government. And everyone knows about Max's intentions", he declared.
Despite the pressure, interlocutors say that Max should not make the decision alone and intends to listen to the pre-candidates before dropping the hammer.
"He will not make any decisions alone. He will listen to everyone and evaluate the scenario," said the source.
On Monday night (3), Max met again with Wellington Fagundes, this time at the house of state deputy Eduardo Botelho (MDB). At the meeting, the PL pre-candidate reiterated that the vice-president position on his ticket is available to Podemos.
