In a statement to the Civil Police, she admitted that she left the property at around 2:30 am to go to an event house in Artur Nogueira, where a forró was taking place, and left a candle lit to light the house, which had been without electricity for about a month. "He stated that he was unable to get a family member or neighbor to remain responsible for the children", indicated the Civil Police, in the incident report.
