Mother admits that she left 3 children alone at home with a lit candle to go to forró The mother of the three children who stayed in a house that caught fire in Engenheiro Coelho (SP) admitted to the Civil Police that she left her children alone to go to a forró in a neighboring city. The property caught fire and she ended up in prison for abandonment of an incapacitated person. A 9-year-old girl suffered burns to her hands, arms and legs. Her twin brother and another sister, aged 5, were treated for smoke inhalation. The children were seen around 3am this Sunday (16). The 29-year-old woman, who will not be identified to protect the children's identity, returned to the property at around 4am. According to the police report, she showed signs of intoxication. In a statement to the Civil Police, she admitted that she left the property at around 2:30 am to go to an event house in Artur Nogueira, where a forró was taking place, and left a candle lit to light the house, which had been without electricity for about a month. "He stated that he was unable to get a family member or neighbor to remain responsible for the children", indicated the Civil Police, in the incident report.
