Between January 2023 and June 2026, the country had a positive balance of 10.1 million jobs, according to data from Rais. Of the total, 5.35 million are from CLT and other private sector jobs, while 4.75 million were from the public sector.
Growth occurred in the services, commerce, industry, construction and agricultural sectors. The biggest increase was in services - a variation of 42% compared to 2023. Agriculture had a lower increase, of 5%, in the same period.
By region, the biggest variations occurred in the North and Central-West of the country, which had growth of 34.7% and 28.6%, respectively, in the period.
Despite the positive result accumulated in this third term of the Lula government, the most recent statistics from Caged (General Employee Registry) have shown a drop in formal hiring.
From April to June, Caged recorded the worst results since 2020, the year of the pandemic. According to Rais, from January to June 2026, there was a variation of only 2.6%.
In 2025, Brazil recorded a stock of 59.9 million formal jobs, an increase of 5% compared to the previous year. The number represents an increase of 2.8 million links compared to 2024.
The majority of the contracts were those of CLT employees, who totaled 46.1 million, followed by statutory employees (public sector regime), with 12.6 million. The public sector had a higher variation than the private market, with a variation of 18.2% in the municipal sector - the highest among entities of different legal natures.
