"Trump, in September there is the UN [United Nations Organization] meeting," Lula told the audience present, in reference to the assembly to be held in September. "Invite Xi Jinping and [Vladimir] Putin to his house - he has a golf house, near Miami - have a drink, and let's try to find a way to make peace," said the president.
The statement was made in Belo Horizonte, during a rally held to strengthen the PT's state platform in Minas Gerais.
"The taxation you imposed on Brazil is not only unrealistic, it was based on a lie," he said, refuting accusations from the American government regarding forced labor and deforestation rates in the country.
According to the president, a meeting was scheduled between the US Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, and Minister Márcio Elias Rosa, from the Development, Industry, Commerce and Services portfolio, to discuss the tariffs.
"We want to work together. What we don't want is interference in Brazil," Lula told the audience.
The event was held at Praça da Estação, a traditional rallying point for the Minas Gerais left located in the center of the city.
The rally began at around 7:15 pm, after a 13-minute countdown displayed on the big screen. Before the president's arrival, artists sang campaign jingles, some in Bahian pagodão and funk rhythms. A large Brazilian flag was also raised over the crowd.
During the afternoon, the president was on the agenda in Governador Valadares, around 315 km from the capital of Minas Gerais, where he visited the duplication works on the BR-116 and the São Raimundo bridge, which crosses the Doce river.
At the time, he credited former governor Romeu Zema (Novo), his opponent in the face-to-face dispute, and former president Jair Bolsonaro with being to blame for the state's record debt to the Union.
"I was not from the banana peel eating party, but I am president of Brazil, and I decided to help Minas Gerais", stated the president, in reference to the state's adherence to Propag (Program for Full Payment of State Debts).
In a Datafolha survey released this Friday, the first carried out after the official start of the campaign, Lula is ahead in voting intentions, scoring 39% against 33% for Flávio Bolsonaro, in the first round. In a possible second round, the PT member leads by 47% to 43%.
