The crime echoed throughout Brazil thanks to the courage of Marli, who, the following day, went to the battalion – an action that she would repeat several times between visits to the battalion and the police station – to recognize, point out and denounce the perpetrators of the crime, in a firm attitude that earned her the epithet of “Marli Coragem” in the press and which was praised by Ivan Lins in a samba, “Coragem Mulher”, composed by Ivan with his lyricist partner Vitor Martins and released by the singer himself on the album “Novo tempo”, in 1980. It is this song, a pearl little known even by followers of Ivan Lins, that Juliane Gamboa captures in an unreleased recording, made with the participation of Ivan himself, for a single that will be released on Thursday, August 20th, in an edition of the Biscoito Fino record label. Everything that this song symbolizes has a lot to do with who I am, with the history of the women in my family", associates Juliane Gamboa, singer and songwriter who released the praised album “Jazzwoman” (2024) two years ago. Ivan Lins endorses the artist's speech. "I have great hope that Juliane will be able, through this song, to move people. Everything is politics in art, and it is important that the new generations commit to improving Brazil in a humanistic sense. Racial, social and religious intolerance is growing throughout the world. Songs like this are increasingly necessary", says the singer, remembering that the idea of ??celebrating Marli's courage in music came from her partner Vitor Martins. "We had never seen a woman fight the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro, who already had a reputation for being very violent. The police threatened to kill Marli and everyone in her family if they said anything, but Marli was not intimidated and went to the commander, at the barracks, and reported them. They put the troops in formation and she started pointing. We were very moved by her story and we thought that music could also help protect her. I imagine that today she is around 70 years, live in another place and under another name”, reports Ivan Lins. Born in 1954, in Favela do Pinto, Marli Pereira Soares is 72 years old, if she is alive, bearing the marks of two deaths in her family by PMs. On January 13, 1993, 14 years after her brother's execution, Marli had her son Sandro, then 15 years old, murdered by a police officer. This time, no one made music to encourage Marli's fight for justice. However, the struggle of “Marli Coragem” echoes in 2026 in the recording made by Juliane Gamboa with arrangement and musical production by Diego do Valle.
