Índio da Cuíca releases the album 'Zing zing' in September, with Siba, Ana Frango Elétrico and samba by Juçara Marçal

At 75 years old, rhythmist, singer and composer from Rio de Janeiro Índio da Cuíca releases his second solo album, 'Zing zing' on September 3rd Rafael Meliga / Disclosure ? NEWS ? Five years after presenting his first solo album, “Malandro 5 Estrelas” (2021), Índio da Cuíca releases his second album, “Zing zing”, scheduled for September 3rd on the same label QTV that edited the solo recording debut of this singer, composer and rhythmist from Rio de Janeiro born Francisco Tavares Machado 75 years ago, precisely on May 5, 1951, in Morro do Borel, in the community of Tijuca, a neighborhood in the north of the city of Rio de Janeiro (RJ). Son of guitarist João de Aquino (1945 – 2022), Gabriel de Aquino provides the musical direction, arrangements and plays acoustic guitar throughout the 11 tracks on the album “Zing zing”. Under the artistic direction of Bernardo Oliveira and Paulinho Bicolor, who highlight the performance style of Índio da Cuíca, a rhythmist of the “juggler” line, the artist presents on the album “Zing zing” an essentially authorial repertoire formatted from a series of voice and cuíca audios in which Índio recorded raw themes and melodies. Enlisted by the album's producers, musicians Alaan Monteiro (mandolin), João Rafael (bass), Luizinho do Jêje (percussions), Pedro Fonseca (piano and synthesizer), Thiago Castro (percussions) and Thiago Silva (drums) joined Gabriel de Aquino to shape the repertoire selected for the album “Zing zing” in the studio. Some songs, such as “Preto Velho” and “Toca lúna” (composed by the rhythmist on the berimbau), are written only by Índio da Cuíca. Others had lyrics by composers such as João Martins and Raul Di Caprio (co-authors of “Cangalha do boi”, a samba-embolada recorded with the participation of Siba), Manu da Cuíca (“Sabença e dendê”), Romulo Fróes (“Someone calls me”, a song recorded with the voice of Ana Frango Elétrico) and Gabriel de Aquino himself (“Cuíca Crazy”). Juçara Marçal provided the new samba “Gracinha”. Among the three re-recordings of the repertoire, there is the samba-enredo “African magic in Brazil and its mysteries” (Jorge Machado, 1975), by the Unidos da Tijuca samba school.
