The accident happened around 8:30 pm. Two girls aged 4 and 6, daughters of a restaurant employee, were at the front of the room watching a cartoon, while their father was in the back working.
The 4-year-old child was injured and was rescued by Samu (Mobile Emergency Care Service).
According to firefighters, a woman was also injured. The two victims and the driver, who was unconscious after the collision, were taken to the Diadema Municipal Hospital.
The child and woman were treated and later released. The driver remains hospitalized under police escort. The security department stated that the police officers who responded to the incident reported that he had a strong odor of alcohol.
According to the police report, the driver's brother went to the scene and stated that he has problems with alcohol and drugs and has already been hospitalized. The brother stated that the upholsterer had drunk alcohol and used drugs before leaving the vehicle without permission.
The driver was arrested for drunk driving and attempted murder. The case was registered in the 3rd Police District of Diadema. The vehicle had expired documentation and was seized.
According to the TJ-SP (Court of Justice of the State of São Paulo), the upholsterer underwent a custody hearing this Tuesday (18) and was granted provisional release after paying R$100,000 in bail. He must also appear in court every two months to justify his activities.
