Hogwarts Legacy 2 is confirmed by Warner Bros.; see what is known

In the document, the company mentions the “second Hogwarts Legacy title” when explaining its plans to expand the games division’s contribution to the group’s results in the coming years. So far, however, no images, trailers or information about the story have been released.

There is also no official date for the release of “Hogwarts Legacy 2”, the name by which the sequel has been called by the specialized press. Warner did not say which consoles and platforms the game will be available on.

Hogwarts Legacy's success paved the way for continuation

Originally released in February 2023, “Hogwarts Legacy” is an open-world action RPG developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games under the Portkey Games label. The story takes place in the Harry Potter universe, but approximately a century before the events narrated in the books.

In the game, the user takes on the role of a Hogwarts student in the 19th century. It is possible to explore the castle, Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest and other areas, learn spells, prepare potions and face different enemies while the plot presents an ancient secret of the wizarding world.

The commercial performance made discussions about a sequel practically inevitable. According to recently released data, “Hogwarts Legacy” has already exceeded 40 million copies sold in its different versions. The game initially arrived on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC and later gained editions for other consoles.

The previously mentioned mark of 22 million units had been reached at the beginning of 2024. Since then, therefore, sales have advanced significantly.

Warner Bros. already treated sequence as a priority

While this is the most direct confirmation of the new title's existence, Warner Bros. had been showing signs that it intended to turn “Hogwarts Legacy” into a franchise.

In 2024, company executives already described a continuation as one of the games division's top priorities. Warner's strategy began to concentrate investments in a smaller number of properties considered especially strong, including the Harry Potter universe.

Now, the sequence formally appears among the projects used by the company to explain its growth expectations in the video game sector.

When will Hogwarts Legacy 2 be released?

Warner Bros. has not yet announced when “Hogwarts Legacy 2” will hit the market. It also did not confirm which characters will be present, in what period the story will take place or whether the new game will maintain the same open world structure as the original.

For now, the only official information is that the second title is in development. Therefore, predictions that point to 2027 or 2028 as possible release years should be treated only as speculation, and not as a date set by Warner Bros.
