Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will return to live in the United Kingdom six years after stepping down as active members of the British royal family and moving to the United States.

According to "People" magazine, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will return to the country later this month accompanied by their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5. The children are expected to start attending a British school in September.

The change, however, does not mean a definitive abandonment of the life built outside the United Kingdom. Harry and Meghan intend to maintain their residence in Montecito, California, as well as the vacation home they own in Portugal. At the same time, they will establish a new private base on British territory.

For security and privacy reasons, the exact location of the new residence or the school where Archie and Lilibet will study were not disclosed.

Despite returning to the country, Harry and Meghan will not resume official duties in the monarchy. The two will continue as non-working members of the royal family, following the agreement established when they left their duties in 2020.

Before moving to the United States, the couple had Frogmore Cottage, in Windsor, as their British residence, a property donated by Queen Elizabeth II. After the publication of Harry's memoir, "Spare", released in 2023 with revelations about the behind-the-scenes of the royal family, King Charles III asked the Sussexes to leave the property.

The monarch was informed about his son's new plans on Sunday, August 16. According to "People", Charles welcomed the decision, mainly due to the possibility of spending more time with his grandchildren.

The move comes just weeks after Harry and Meghan took Archie and Lilibet to the UK over the summer. The trip marked the children's first reunion with their grandfather in more than four years. The family met Charles at Highgrove House.

During the same visit to the country, Harry participated in commitments related to the 2027 Invictus Games, which will be held in Birmingham.

Harry and Meghan left the front line of the monarchy in 2020 in search of greater financial independence and freedom to lead their personal and professional lives.

At the time, the couple defended a model in which they would continue to support the monarchy while developing their own commercial activities. The proposal did not move forward, and it was decided that they would no longer officially represent the Crown and perform functions reserved for active members of the royal family.

Already settled in the United States, Harry and Meghan made a series of revelations about their experience in the royal family. In 2021, they gave an interview to Oprah Winfrey. Then, they launched the documentary series "Harry & Meghan", on Netflix, and, in 2023, the prince published the memoir "Spare", called "O Que Sobra" in Brazil
