Cold front changes the weather in São Paulo, but heat already has a date to return; see the forecast

"A cold front with weak rainy activity advances across the ocean near the coastal coast of São Paulo. The system should cause isolated rains of weak to moderate intensity at times. Due to this meteorological condition, temperatures do not rise much", states the Climate Emergency Management Center (CGE) of the City of São Paulo.

Return from the heat

Also according to the municipal body, atmospheric simulations indicate a summer condition, between Monday, 17th, and Thursday, 20th. "During this period, the maximum temperature in the capital of São Paulo should exceed 30°C, with reduced air humidity levels, below 30%", he warns.

The expectation is that Saturday will start the day with lots of clouds, intermittent drizzle throughout the morning and temperatures averaging around 16°C. On Sunday, the frontal system moves away from the coast of São Paulo and weather conditions begin to change. The day will be marked by a predominance of sun between few clouds.

Due to the constant changes in temperature in the city of São Paulo and other areas of the country, searches on Google Trends have also increased in relation to topics related to conditions, including the term cold front, which has appeared on the rise in the last three months.

Heat wave alert

The Civil Defense of São Paulo had already issued an alert for a heat wave that should hit the State at least until Wednesday, 19th. The forecast indicates temperatures up to 7°C above average in inland areas, in addition to low levels of humidity and an increased risk of fires in vegetation.

According to the agency, the conditions are caused by the action of a mass of hot and dry air over a large part of the State. The scenario should be more intense in the interior of São Paulo, where the combination of high temperatures, low humidity and dry vegetation can favor the occurrence of fires.

In the capital of São Paulo, the temperature reached 29°C on Thursday, 13th, according to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet). After recording milder temperatures between this Friday and Saturday, the trend is for thermometers to rise in the city in the following days.

The biggest differences in relation to average temperatures are expected in the regions of Presidente Prudente, Araçatuba, São José do Rio Preto, Barretos, Franca and Ribeirão Preto, where thermometers may register up to 7°C above average.

In the regions of Marília, Bauru, Araraquara, Itapeva, Sorocaba, Campinas, São José dos Campos and the metropolitan region of São Paulo, maximum temperatures should be between 3°C and 5°C above average. In Registro, in Baixada Santos and on the north coast of the State, the rise can reach 3°C.

In addition to the effects of heat, Civil Defense draws attention to the impacts of rapidly rising temperatures on health. According to Lieutenant Carolina, a pulmonologist at the Casa Militar Medical Service Department, the combination of heat and low humidity can increase the sensitivity of mucous membranes.

"When the temperature rises quickly, associated with low air humidity, the mucous membranes become more sensitive. This, added to the circulation of respiratory viruses characteristic of winter, increases the risk of respiratory infections, especially among children, the elderly, people with lung diseases or allergies", he explains.
