Foreigners withdraw R$15.6 billion from the Stock Exchange in August, the biggest outflow since 2022

REUTERS/Amanda Perobelli/File photo Foreign investors withdrew R$15.63 billion from B3 in August, considering the trading sessions up to last Thursday (13), according to a survey by Elos Ayta Consultoria based on data from the stock exchange. ?The calculation disregards resources allocated to initial share offerings (IPOs), when a company debuts on the stock exchange, and follow-ons, which are new share offerings made by companies already listed on the market. The volume already represents the largest monthly outflow in the historical series monitored by the consultancy since January 2022. The result surpasses the negative balance of R$ 13.28 billion recorded in May this year, which until then occupied the first position. As a result, 2026 now brings together the two largest monthly withdrawals of foreign resources in the series. In just nine trading sessions, the exit has already exceeded the entire volume recorded in May, which had 21 trading sessions, showing an acceleration in the flow of capital withdrawal. Exclusive study by Elos Ayta Everything changed in just a few months In the first quarter, foreign investors contributed R$26.31 billion in January, R$15.40 billion in February and R$11.66 billion in March. In July, the balance was also positive, with an inflow of R$2.56 billion. From the second quarter onwards, however, the flow changed direction. After the outflow of R$13.28 billion in May, June recorded a withdrawal of R$7.79 billion, and August already accumulates an even greater volume before the middle of the month. According to Elos Ayta, the main point of attention is precisely the exit speed. As the month has not yet ended, it is not possible to anticipate the definitive balance, but the pace observed so far places August as the period of greatest withdrawal of foreign capital from B3 since the beginning of the consultancy's historical series.
