The Stock Exchange closed down 0.35%, at 176,010 points. According to Renato Widmer, CIO and manager at Aurum Wealth Management, the Ibovespa differed from the performance of the main global stock exchanges, which ended the day on a high. For him, the main factor behind the retraction was the possibility of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, announcing new tariffs on Brazilian products, which could put pressure on the performance of some sectors of the Stock Exchange.
Outside the Ibovespa, Ânima shares plummeted more than 30%, after the company announced the acquisition of FMU (Faculdades Metropolitanas Unidas) for R$410 million. The educational institution, which has around 51 thousand students and campuses in São Paulo, is in judicial recovery.
This Wednesday, the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) announced that the volume of services fell 0.4% in May compared to April, after rising 1.1% in April.
For Felipe Cima, analyst at Manchester Investimentos, the result could reinforce the perception that the BC (Central Bank) will have room to cut the basic interest rate again in the next meetings. Currently, Selic is at 14.25% per year.
The market also followed the release of the new Genial/Quaest survey, which showed President Lula (PT) expanding his advantage over Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) in a second round simulation.
On Wall Street, the S&P 500 rose 0.37%, the Nasdaq gained 0.62% and the Dow Jones rose 0.29%. According to Fabio Louzada, economist and founder of B7 Business School, North American stock markets found support in the PPI, which came in lower than expected and reinforced the perception that inflationary pressures in the US continue to lose strength.

The contract for January 2035 ended the day at 14.340%, with a variation of 0.05 percentage points.

Experts interviewed by the report state that the result of lower-than-expected inflation in the United States was influenced by the temporary drop in energy prices during the truce in the conflict in the Middle East.
As a result, although the data reinforced expectations of lower interest rates in the US, the resumption of the conflict - and the consequent rise in Brent oil - led the market to project new pressures on costs in the next inflation readings. This scenario tends to reinforce the Fed's caution in future decisions on monetary policy.
At the end of the afternoon, a barrel of Brent oil was trading at around US$85, up 1.06%.
The Genial/Quaest survey showed that President Lula expanded his advantage over Flávio Bolsonaro to eight points in a second round simulation, winning by 45% to 37%.
White, null and voters who said they did not vote totaled 14%, and undecided voters, 4%. The PT member's advantage, which was six points in the June survey, fluctuated within the margin of error. For part of the market, the result of the survey could put pressure on the real, as investors tend to react negatively to scenarios associated with a more expansionary fiscal policy.
