Brazilian drag queen DJ wins international competition and releases remix with Snoop Dogg ?? A song that features North American rapper Snoop Dogg on vocals has been given a new version by Vanessão, a drag queen DJ born in Suzano and resident of Mogi das Cruzes, in Greater São Paulo. The remix of “Baseline”, produced by the Brazilian, won a competition that brought together 233 competitors and was officially launched on digital platforms. The drag queen was created by Dimas Gois, 27, who began his artistic career ten years ago. He says that, at first, he even left the house on horseback and walked to appointments because he didn't have money to pay for transportation. ? I started my career as a drag queen when I lived in Suzano and I remember that I was such a dreamy young man. I remember that I walked home as a drag queen because I didn't have money to take private transportation. I only had one dream: to be able to show people how music transforms my life. And, today, I'm here releasing a remix with Snoop Dogg and even celebrating 10 years of art, resistance and empowerment”, he stated in an interview with g1. The original version of “Baseline” is written by DJs and producers Eran Hersh, Esther Anaya, Dean Walker and Asteon, with the participation of Snoop Dogg on vocals. But it was a friend who encouraged the DJ to create the remix. "A friend and producer who lives in Paris called me and said he was in the last few days of signing up for a global competition to do a remix with Snoop Dogg's song. At first, I was scared, but, as I love a challenge, I agreed. The idea was to do something that would be totally different from anything I've ever done", he said. ? To remix the song, Vanessão chose afrobeat, a musical genre that emerged in West Africa and mixes elements of African rhythms with jazz, funk and other styles. The version produced by the DJ was chosen as the winner among 233 remixes submitted and released by the record label One Day Forever. "The contest was published on the Label Radar website. There, they made the original song available and I created the remix from scratch. We did it in two days. It was in February and we sent it on the 28th, the last day", he recalled. Vanessão's relationship with music began as a teenager, when Dimas was part of the Guarda Mirim in Suzano. At the age of 15, he attended a matinee in Mogi das Cruzes that would end up marking the beginning of this journey. "One of the girls who studied with me told me about a matinee she had in Mogi das Cruzes and that there I could be whoever I wanted to be. It was such a magical moment, because my father didn't accept me as a homosexual. So, there was my refuge", he said. ? It was also in one of the editions of the party that Dimas decided to set up for the first time. On a fancy dress night, he chose to dress like Beyoncé, hidden from his father. The experience also sparked an interest in DJing. "There, I felt something so surreal that I can't say in words how magical it was to be able to bring a character to life. I talked to one of the house DJs to see if he could teach me how to play. I remember he took out a sheet of paper and explained to me what everything did. And I was really eager to show everyone what the power of music does", he recalled. ? ? Ten years after the start of his career, Vanessão has already performed in four countries and in different cities in Brazil. According to the DJ, she has also worked alongside artists such as Ludmilla, Iza, Pabllo Vittar and Gloria Groove. Currently living in Mogi das Cruzes, Vanessão began a tour of Europe in June this year. The first stop was Paris, France, where he performed during the Fête de la Musique, an event held annually on June 21, with performances spread across different parts of the city. ???
