MEASLES VACCINATION

The cities of São Paulo, Guarulhos and São Bernardo do Campo continue with the campaign to intensify vaccination against measles for the population aged 6 months to 59 years.

In addition to the UBSs, the MMR, which protects against measles, mumps and rubella, is available in five São Paulo metro stations: Corinthians-Itaquera, São Mateus, Vila Prudente, Vila Matilde and Tucuruvi. See days and times below.

There are other stations spread across the capital of São Paulo, such as bus terminals, shopping malls and supermarkets. The complete list can be consulted here: https://prefeitura.sp.gov.br/documents/d/saude/5-agosto-acoes-extramuro-intensificacao-de-vacinacao-contra-o-sarampo-pdf.

The return of measles in the municipalities of São Paulo, São Bernardo do Campo and Guarulhos, in the metropolitan region, led the Ministry of Health to recommend vaccination for the entire population aged 6 months to 59 years in the three cities. This guidance is valid even for those who have already been vaccinated.

Measles is a respiratory disease caused by a highly contagious virus. The most common symptoms are high fever, red spots on the body (rash), conjunctivitis, runny nose, malaise and dry cough. Transmission occurs from person to person, through the air, when coughing, sneezing, talking or breathing.

The vaccination schedule recommended by the Ministry of Health provides for two doses: the first at 12 months, with the triple viral, and the second at 15 months, with the tetraviral, which includes chickenpox.

People aged 1 to 29 must have two doses of the triple virus. Anyone in this age group and does not know whether they have ever had the measles vaccine in their lives should be immunized with two doses.

Adults ages 30 to 59 should have at least one dose. Healthcare professionals need to prove two doses, regardless of age.
