Jean Carlos Weber and Marcelo Fortes were found dead at the scene. The case happened around 11:30 pm, on Avenida Willy Barth, an urban stretch of BR-163. In addition to the rescuers, the accident mobilized the Military Police (PM), the Scientific Police (PCI) and the Legal Medical Institute (IML). When contacted, the city hall said it would not comment on the case, as the highway falls under federal jurisdiction, but informed that, as it is an urban stretch, the speed limit is 50 km/h.
