The 23rd Cuiabá Film Festival (Cinemato) came to an end, yesterday, with a ceremony marked by a tribute to filmmaker Amauri Tangará, the awarding of the 2nd Dira Paes Prize and the announcement of the feature and short films that won the Coxiponé Trophy. The big winner of the night was the feature film “Cinco Types of Fear”, by Bruno Bini from Cuiaba, which won the Official Jury awards for Best Film, Best Mato Grosso Film, Best Editing and Best Direction. “Filhas de Noite”, by Pernambuco natives Henrique Arruda and Sylara Silvério, was also one of the highlights of the event. The work won the award for Best Feature Film by the Popular Jury and was elected Best Non-Fiction Feature Film by the Official Jury.

The Popular Jury chose “Memories with a View to the Sea”, by Marton Olympio, as the Best Short Film.
The presentation of the 2nd Dira Paes Award, created to recognize a woman from Mato Grosso with relevant work in the defense of women and the environment, was carried out by actress Vanessa Gerbelli and the winner of the last edition, Antonieta Luisa Costa, known as Nieta, founder of Casa das Pretas. This year's honoree was Tatiana Rei, farmer, dancer, founder of the Elementares do Quilombo group, choreographer, art educator, storyteller and workshop in the language of dance.
Director, actor and playwright Amauri Tangará took the stage to receive a tribute for his career marked by works connected to popular identities and the territories of so-called deep Brazil. Another tribute of the night was dedicated to José Luiz Almeida, who received the Projection Excellence Award. Known as Zé, he is responsible for screening films and the technical operation of sessions at festivals held throughout Brazil.
With the theme “Migration, Environment and Audiovisual”, CINEMATO, now recognized as Historical, Cultural and Intangible Heritage of the State of Mato Grosso, screened 67 films from 17 Brazilian states. The productions addressed themes linked to belonging, human displacement, environmental transformations and cultural and territorial diversity, highlighting the aesthetic richness of contemporary Brazilian cinema.
