What can ChatGPT do with your messages?
Once installed and authorized, the plugin can read and search iMessage, SMS and RCS conversations available on the Mac. From there, the user can ask for different tasks related to messages.
Possibilities include searching for information in old conversations, summarizing unread messages or messages received within a certain period, creating responses and sending texts through the Messages app itself.
You can also combine this information with other tasks. An example is asking ChatGPT to identify appointments or dates mentioned in a conversation and, based on this information, help organize a response.

How to activate Apple Messages in ChatGPT
Configuration is done directly through the ChatGPT application on Mac.
The first step is to open the Plugins area and look for Apple Messages. Then, just install the tool and start a new conversation on Codex or ChatGPT Work.

Can ChatGPT send messages alone?
By default, no. OpenAI establishes a confirmation step before submission.
When ChatGPT prepares a message, the user can check both the text and the recipients before authorizing the message. The Allow once option only allows that submission.
There is also the possibility of permanently authorizing sending to a specific conversation. In this case, new messages for that chat may be sent without individual confirmation.
OpenAI itself recommends caution with this configuration, as permanent approval eliminates the last opportunity to review content before it is submitted on the user's behalf.
If you change your mind, you can remove this permission in the settings and return to requiring confirmation for each submission.
Can you use it on iPhone?
For now, not directly.
The plugin works on Mac and is not available on ChatGPT for mobile or the web version. This step also requires a computer equipped with an Apple Silicon chip.
This means that the user can work with messages that are synced in the Messages app on their Mac, but cannot install the integration directly in ChatGPT on the iPhone.
The new feature expands ChatGPT's ability to handle everyday tasks without replacing the Apple app. The user continues to use Messages normally, while artificial intelligence can be activated on the computer to locate information, summarize conversations, compose texts and, when authorized, send them.
