In Rio, there were two outbreaks of “regrettable scenes”. On the field, right after the final whistle, Cienciano's coach, Horacio Melgarejo, allegedly provoked Botafogo players. The Rio team won 1-0, but, as they had lost 6-1 in the first leg, they were eliminated from the South American Championship.
When asked about the confusion at the press conference, Melgarejo said nothing. "I'm not going to answer because everything is recorded and I don't want any problems," he said.
The technician ended up being cornered against an advertising board. Alex Telles had to be held back by Cienciano players. Marcal pulled the coach by the collar of his shirt. The stadium's security teams acted to contain the confusion.
As if that weren't enough, Botafogo fans were caught by television broadcast cameras fighting among themselves. It is possible to see stadium security agents trying to break up the confusion.
Even eliminated, Rosario Central and Botafogo could suffer punishments from Conmebol. The entity must analyze the cases before the Disciplinary Committee.
