After 11 years, Campinas announces resumption of samba school parades in 2027

The City of Campinas (SP) announced this Monday (17) the resumption of samba school parades in the 2027 carnival. The decision was taken after a meeting between the Municipal Secretariat of Culture and Tourism, the League of Samba Schools of Campinas (Liesca) and representatives of the four associations that have been participating in dialogues with the municipal administration. Scheduled to take place on March 13, 2027, on Avenida Francisco Glicério, in the center of Campinas, the samba school parade marks the resumption of a tradition interrupted since 2015, the year in which the metropolis held the last parades with samba schools. Carnival blocks will be maintained. "In addition to holding the parade, we will also mobilize training and preparation initiatives, contributing to the strengthening of schools and professionals involved in this important cultural event", said secretary Alexandra Caprioli. According to the City Hall, the resumption is also being built with the mobilization of the schools themselves and the search for support to pay for the parade. Among the expected sources are amendments from Campinas councilors and actions promoted by the associations themselves to raise funds. One of the initiatives is the sale of a t-shirt in support of samba schools, worth R$60. Anyone who wants to contribute to the mobilization can purchase the t-shirt by calling (19) 98212-7164. The initiative seeks to bring the population closer to schools and, at the same time, contribute to the structure necessary for the resumption of parades. Union of Samba Schools Presidents of the schools and representative of the League of Samba Schools of Campinas (Liesca) highlight that the return scheduled for 2027 represents not only the return of the parades, but also the recognition of a history built by the communities, the appreciation of popular culture and the opening of a new cycle for samba in the city. For the president of Unidos do Shanghai, Messias Souza da Silva, the announcement is the result of years of resistance and persistence by schools. "For many years, the samba schools in Campinas kept the hope of returning to the avenue alive. There were years of struggle, resistance and love for Carnival. Announcing this resumption shows that it was worth not giving up. For the samba schools' parade, the fight never ends. United always!", he stated. The president of Leões, Elizeth Campagnuci, highlights that the resumption also represents the recovery of the credibility of samba schools in Campinas. According to her, even far from the avenue, the associations continued to develop projects, moving their communities and demonstrating their organizational capacity. "Returning to Glicério is an opportunity to show the city, public authorities and potential partners that it is worth believing in and investing in our schools. We want 2027 to be not just the year we return, but the beginning of a solid project", he highlighted. For Michel Moraes Furtado, president of Estrela D’Alva, the return of official parades represents the recovery of a trajectory that is part of the communities’ identity. "More than just returning to parade, we are rescuing a history, preserving a legacy and continuing a trajectory that is part of our community's identity," he stated. According to him, samba and parades have the power to bring people together, strengthen bonds, promote inclusion and transform lives through art, education and coexistence. The president of Rosa de Prata, Jorge Camargo, highlights the fundamental role of communities in maintaining the samba tradition. "The strength of a samba school comes from its community. It is where our roots, our stories and the people who keep samba alive from generation to generation. Returning to the avenue after so many years is an achievement for each member, each family and everyone who continued to believe", he said. The president of Liesca, Edson Joia, highlights that the parades bring together culture, inclusion, tradition and ancestry, in addition to boosting the economy and generating income. For him, the union of the four schools that kept samba alive in Campinas opens a new moment for the city. "Today we live in new times, and the union of the four schools that held the line, that didn't let samba literally die in Campinas, opens a new cycle in our city", he stated. Blocks continue at Campinas Carnival The resumption of samba schools does not replace the block Carnival, which will continue to be part of the city's programming. The proposal is to integrate the different carnival events. The block activities will be carried out first and, later, the samba school parades will take place. In this way, Campinas expands the carnival program and values ??different forms of participation by the population in the party.
