Teenager dies after trying to rob an off-duty guard in Sumaré; 2nd suspect was arrested A 16-year-old teenager died after being shot during an attempted robbery of an off-duty municipal guard on Wednesday night (19), in Sumaré (SP). An 18-year-old young man, suspected of participating in the crime, was arrested. According to the Police Special Actions Battalion (Baep), the municipal guard of Campinas (SP) was on a motorcycle on Estrada Municipal Valêncio Calegari when he was approached by the duo, who were on another motorcycle. The agent reacted and shot the teenager. The minor was rescued by the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) and taken to the Macarenko Emergency Care Unit (UPA), but did not survive. The guard handed the police the weapon used by the teenager, identified as a replica. During the incident, a 63-year-old truck driver who was passing by was grazed on the left shoulder. He told the police that he heard the shots and felt a burning sensation. The man was treated at the UPA and released. Another suspect arrested The 18-year-old man was found hiding in a vegetation area about 50 meters from the location. He told the police that he was riding the motorcycle, but claimed that he did not know that the teenager was armed and that he intended to commit the robbery. Also according to Baep, the motorcycle used by the suspects had been stolen in Campinas on August 17th and was returned to the owner. Shortly before the crime, the duo tried to steal another motorcycle in the center of Sumaré, but failed. In addition to the recovered motorcycle, the police seized the replica weapon and a cell phone. The case was registered at the Sumaré Police Station as a robbery with death resulting from police intervention and reception. The 18-year-old man remained detained in custody.
