Macro-drainage works are progressing on Avenida do Povo, in the central region, with the replacement of damaged pipes with concrete staves in the first section to receive services. At this stage of the work, the rainwater gallery, made up of Armcos pipes, is being replaced by concrete staves near the intersection with Benedito Cursino dos Santos Street, due to the damage to the pipe, which was deteriorated, which required work to begin in that area. The new structure will provide greater hydraulic capacity, resistance and useful life to the drainage system. The project also includes the readjustment of microdrainage networks. During the execution of the work, points of improper sewage discharge were found in the rainwater collection network, which, in the long term, accelerates the wear and corrosive processes of the pipes, made of corrugated steel, in addition to polluting streams and rivers. This Armco pipe was installed on Avenida do Povo, during the canalization of a section of the Judeu stream, carried out in the 1980s. Since then, there are no records of works with a major impact on the macro-drainage network at the site. The work is part of the project to modernize the road's urban drainage system and aims to increase the rainwater drainage capacity, contributing to the reduction of flooding in the region. The practical stage of the work began in the first week of July. The services are performed by a company contracted through bidding, which is also responsible for preparing technical studies and executive projects. The work is financed through agreements signed by the Municipal Administration and will be carried out in stages, reducing impacts on traffic and ensuring the safe progress of the interventions.
