When they arrived at the residence, the police did not find the victim, but they located bloodstains and other signs that a crime may have occurred. Teams searched for the woman in a municipal hospital, in other neighborhoods in Floresta and also on rural roads in the region. The body was later located in Itambé. According to the Paraná Civil Police (PCPR), he was charred. The initial suspicion is that the woman was stabbed, but the cause of death must be determined by forensic examinations. The main suspect in the crime, according to the Civil Police, is the victim's boyfriend. The man was located and arrested by the São Paulo Military Police at the Arujá toll plaza, on Rodovia Presidente Dutra, while trying to escape. The arrest occurred after information was shared between the security forces of Paraná and São Paulo, with the participation of the Federal Highway Police (PRF) and the Criminal Police. After the approach, the police found a gallon jug and blood marks inside the vehicle. According to the police, the man confessed to the murder of Laís, in Floresta, and told the police the place where he had hidden the body, in Itambé. The suspect was arrested in São Paulo. According to the Paraná police authority, the relationship between the man and the victim was recent and the two did not live together. According to the corporation, the suspect had remained in prison until February and was released using an electronic ankle bracelet. He already had a history of domestic violence against another woman with whom he had had a relationship.
