São Sebastião ended the second quarter of 2026 with a positive balance in the generation of formal jobs. Between April and June, the municipality registered 2,327 admissions, which resulted in a balance of 120 new jobs with a formal contract in the period. The data comes from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons (Novo Caged), released by the Ministry of Labor and Employment, and shows an economically active city, with the capacity to generate opportunities even after the busiest period of the summer season. Commerce and services led hiring and, together, accounted for almost 89% of all admissions made in the city during the quarter. Commerce registered 758 admissions and ended the period with a positive balance of 90 jobs. The result reinforces the importance of the sector for the economy of Sebastian, both in generating income and in maintaining economic activity in the different neighborhoods and regions of the city. The services sector showed the biggest movement, with 1,310 admissions and a positive balance of 49 jobs. The segment brings together activities linked to tourism, accommodation, food, health, education, transport, communication, real estate market, administrative and professional services, among other areas. The diversity of these activities helps to sustain the municipal economy throughout the year and expands opportunities for workers, entrepreneurs and companies that choose São Sebastião to invest and develop their businesses. More than an important tourist destination, São Sebastião has established itself as a city to work, undertake and invest. Each new formal job represents income for families, greater circulation of resources in commerce and strengthening of the local economy. The Novo Caged indicators also help the municipality in planning public policies aimed at professional qualification, bringing workers and companies closer together and economic development. The data is released monthly by the Ministry of Labor and Employment and allows monitoring the movement of formal employment by municipality and sector of activity.
